Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by “no dues membership?”

Beginning immediately, there will be no dues charged for MACUL membership.

How will new members join MACUL?

New members of MACUL will be able to join online via the MACUL website . Additionally, by attending the MACUL conference or other event lead by MACUL, your contact information will automatically be added to our membership database.

How does it change my current MACUL membership?

Nothing changes for current members.

Why is MACUL going to a no dues membership?

MACUL’s mission is to ignite learning through meaningful collaboration and innovation. In order to increase the opportunities for collaboration, the MACUL board chose to remove the barrier of fees for membership. Several ISTE affiliate organizations (groups like MACUL in other states) have gone to a no dues membership and have experienced tremendous growth. More MACUL members mean greater opportunities for collaboration and innovation.  As a result, our organization will have a bigger reach and impact throughout the state and even the nation.

Will the cost of the MACUL conference change?

Yes and no!  The cost of the 2013 MACUL conference increases to $185 for a full conference registration, but that amount is only $5 more than the cost of registration for each of the past five MACUL conferences.

Can people outside of Michigan or outside the US join MACUL?

Yes!  Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in educational technology.

Does the no dues membership impact how I receive the MACUL Journal?

MACUL has gone green! All MACUL members will have access to the electronic version of the Journal. Members attending a  MACUL event will have the option to receive a printed copy of the Journal at the event.

Can I get a printed copy of the Journal mailed to me if I don’t attend a MACUL event?

Yes.  By joining “Friends of MACUL” for only $20/year, Friends will be eligible to receive a printed copy of the Journal delivered by US mail.

Are there any other benefits to being a Friend of MACUL?

Yes.  Friends receive special recognition at the MACUL annual conference and names will appear on the Friends of MACUL website.  Over the next several months, more Friends of MACUL benefits will be announced.

When can I become a Friend of MACUL?

Beginning January 1, 2012 anyone can become a Friend of MACUL for only $20 and is tax deductible.  Friends term runs from January 1 to December 31.

Will I still pay to join Special Interest Groups?

No!.  Special Interest Groups are free for membership in any or all of the 10 SIGs..

How do I update my membership information ?

That option is available on the MACUL website.

How long does the free membership last?

Once you are a member of MACUL, we hope you will choose to stay a member! Our current plans are to only remove your name from membership if your email is no longer valid, or if we haven’t seen you at a MACUL event for some time.
